Happy Christmas Eve everyone!!!
In a new Christmas tradition, this year once again we joined Stephanie & Burt to gift wrap on Christmas Eve! This year we went up to Harford Mall, about 10 minutes from where we grew up, to wrap gifts to raise money for the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance, a volunteer-led non-profit that donates all of the funds raised to benefit cancer programs through Cancer LifeNet and Upper Chesapeake Health.
We were pretty impressed by the set-up – high counters, high-quality paper, organized volunteers – and the higher quality of customers (no sugar daddy’s throwing Benjamin’s into a gift box while donating a measly $2 this year!). The three hours definitely flew by – everyone was in a very jolly mood, nobody was unfriendly or in a rush, and we merrily wrapped dozens of gifts.
It was super fun to see what everyone was purchasing last minute – lots of nice purses, some lotions, a couple PJ sets, one Chuck Norris mug, and a mini-Keurig, among other things. Their gift wrap was also really pretty, and I felt like every gift I wrapped was prettier than the last. Here’s one I felt was particularly lovely:
Ian worked with one customer for probably about an hour, wrapping a veritable mountain of gifts for him. The good news is that while his bill came to $60 for all of the wrapping, he gave us $100! It was great to see how generous everyone was when they realized that 100% of the money goes to the CCA. Everyone pretty much hates cancer, so I think everyone was happy to chip in a few extra bucks.
(P.S. Do they have a Nordstrom’s at Harford Mall? Where did that bag come from?)
At the end of our shift, I was beyond thrilled to discover that it was snowing outside! I think I might have yelled, “SNOW!!!” in the middle of the mall. My phone’s weather app was pretty adamant that it wouldn’t snow, so even though I was dreaming of a white Christmas, I didn’t have high hopes. It’s such a treat to have even just a little bit, but luckily there’s still quite a bit that’s still on the ground. It will be a Merry White Christmas after all.
Thanks Stephanie & Burton & Ian for gift wrapping all together again – it was a great afternoon!
Merry Christmas to all of you! I’m looking forward to my final day of giving tomorrow, but also sad that it’s already over. 25 Days just flew by!
