***FIVE DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS OMG SANTA’S COMING!!!!!***
Only a short five days until Christmas! I am so excited I could dance! I definitely can’t eat any more cookies. Today I made hot cocoa with whole milk and Hershey’s cocoa powder – I’m pretty sure I need an intervention…
Today’s Day of Giving was so easy it barely feels like it counts! If you don’t know, my husband is a journalist for Dow Jones Newswires, which is part of the Wall Street Journal. His beat includes not only computer companies like HP, Dell, and Apple, but he also covers a lot of the major video game companies. This means he gets A LOT of video games sent to him from those companies. We have stacks of video games in our living room. Some of them he plays so he has an idea of the major games that these companies are putting out there. Most of them just sit there and get dusty.
Well, I noticed a few weeks ago that in the lobby of my husband’s office building they have a bin that goes to Toys for Tots. I bet you can guess where this is going.
That’s right. We put as many of the video games as possible into a bag and I sent them off with Ian to work this morning to deposit into the bin!
Now, some of you might be thinking, “But does a kid who’s on the Toys for Tots list even have the very expensive game consoles to even play these games??” Or maybe you’re thinking “Video games are crap! Kids should be reading and not watching a screen!” Well, those thoughts crossed my mind too. But at the end of the day, we’re not using those games, and so if some teen or kid out there can use them and have a few hours of escape into a game world, that’s up to their parent’s (and the Toys for Tots distribution staff) to figure out. I just hope they go to a home that will use and love them.
Ok back to packing! We’re heading to Baltimore tomorrow – so excited to see my family and my cat!
Want to Join Me in Giving? Look around your house and apartment and see what types of goods you have laying around that you don’t use anymore. Maybe you can find a place to donate them so that they can have a second life with someone who needs them. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Try googling your city’s name + “wish list” to find organizations that need common household goods.
