Now that the great apartment move is over, I’ve been spending my days preparing not only to move to the Republic of Georgia for three months, but also for the week-long training at Kiva HQ here in San Francisco. There’s been a lot of pre-training reading and learning happening in my apartment!
The biggest part of the pre-training was an online UN microfinance training course. The good news: I learned a TON and feel better equipped for my fellowship already. The not-so-great news: There were a lot of equations. Confusing equations. Full disclosure: it’s been uh, years, YEARS! since my last math class. It was a little daunting, and I admit I spent a lot of time refreshing the course to listen to the explanations for a second, third (fourth?) time. I won’t say I’m an expert on APRs at this point, but I figure I’ll get the hang of it eventually.
Actual training at Kiva HQ starts bright and early Monday morning – training from 8am – 6pm every day, with events each evening except Thursday. I’m super excited to meet the rest of the KF13 group (KF13 = Kiva Fellows, 13th class), as well as the Kiva staff. I’m also really excited for Monday night’s “getting to know you event,” which is a touristy cable car ride with dinner at In-N-Out. For those of you who have visited me in San Francisco, you know there is nothing I love more than doing touristy things in SF. Let’s be honest – this city is great, and even the touristy activities don’t really get old (plus In-N-Out is yum!).
